Learning teaching newborn photography

It’s been sitting in my wardrobe for 2 and a half months… I finally get to open my Stand In Baby ! and I’m so excited !!!

SIB is a training aid for newborn photographers

This doll is a practice manikin made especially for newborn photographers, by newborn photographer Sandra Moffatt. It reminds me a little bit of the car crash test dolls, although it’s a lot cuter, I think !

It is meant to move like a real baby, and is the average weight and size of an average newborn baby, making it highly suited to try new things in newborn photography.

Join me in this video when I unbox this amazing doll. Some may find it creepy, some may find it fascinating. My kids love it ! It pack it away when I don’t use it though, as it is not a toy.

Watch me unbox my SIB ! In the video I talk a lot about how it is going to replace my model calls. I will use it to try my new props, new wrapping, be creative with my camera settings, work with stubborn or shy siblings and help parents who request more advanced posing.

Newborn Photography : being creative

Another big thing that I haven’t talked about in the video (although it’s going to be a huge benefit for me), is creativity. I just love being creative, but the thing is, when working with a fussy baby, the stress of delivering images takes over and my creativity stops.

Sometimes, I get bored of doing the same work over and over again, using SIB is going to give me some great breaks when I won’t have to worry about baby. It will all be about having fun creating. I will keep what works and incorporate it in my workflow 🙂
