Here is what I send my clients once they have booked a newborn photography session with Isabelle Newborn Photography.
Coming to a newborn session takes just a little bit of planning. It can be a little stressful as for most parents, coming to the studio is often the first outing after they have come home from the hospital, aside from the medical appointments that can be sprinkled in the first few weeks of having a newborn.
Following the advice below will help you get ready for this special day.
What to bring for the parents (you) :
- Your water bottles
- A snack in case you get hungry
- An outfit that you will be photographed in (read the tips I have prepared for you at the bottom of this email)
- Hairbrush for mum comes in handy
- Some spare clothes if you’d like to have some skin on skin portraits. Little accidents happen so it’s always convenient to have extra clothes for you
It often gets hot in the studio so wear comfortable clothes in layers in case you get too hot so you can easily peal them off
What to bring for Baby :
- Bring everything you usually bring with you for an outing (nappy bag, nappies, wipes, receiving blanket, bottle and formula if baby is formula fed)
- Hairbrush if you have one
- Dummy if baby uses one
- A little outfit that is special to you if you want your baby to be photographed in it
Make-up for Mum … Options
1) Wear no make-up if that is what you like
2) Do your own make up before you come in for your session
3) I can provide a professional hair and make up at a cost of $150 (this needs to be booked and paid in advance, at least 48 Hours before the session day).
This is done in the studio at the beginning of your session and lasts approximately 45 minutes – It’s a lovely pampering. If this option is chosen, all you need to do is wash your hair the day prior to the session – one of my make up artists will look after you
Outfits – what to wear
Here’s a few tips on how to choose the outfits you will want to be photographed in :
- Light coloured outfits, soft colours, generally photograph better
- Don’t mix and match styles (ie casual and formal)
- Don’t mix and match patterns (stripes, dots, …) and if one person wears a top/dress with a pattern then coordinate with a plain top (of same colour) for the other person
- Pick 2 or 3 colours maximum
- Avoid big logos which are distracting – plain often is best and timeless
Don’t worry about your socks and shoes … I don’t photograph them (I do not photograph below the waistline). I love beautiful close ups 🙂
All questions welcome, and there are no silly questions, so please send them my way
