Annabel and her parents came to see me on a Tuesday for their Brisbane newborn portrait session.
I like to keep mum and dad at ease from the beginning. I want their photo session to be a lovely experience, fun and relaxing. I bring a bowl of fruit which keeps us going during the session, and we all have our large plastic water bottles, as I don’t allow glass in the shooting area at all, for safety.
That Tuesday was a very hot day ! I put the air conditioning on before the session and brought the studio to a comfortable temperature of 26 degrees Celsius. As soon as they got here, I turned it off. By the time we were ready to start it was already 28 degrees C, and that was just perfect !
Annabel was wide awake at the beginning of her session, and I was amazed at how content she was. The only prop that I used on her during her entire session was a little bonnet that matched the backdrop I photographed her on. I enjoyed contemplating her and photograph her every move. She was such a funny little thing, doing stretches. She was telling me “I like your posing bag Isabelle, it’s super comfy !”.
She was so awake and so happy and gave me amazing eye contact ! She was looking straight into my camera, which I loved. Baby’s sight is not very developed when they are so little, and they are attracted to things that are bold or contrast. Certainly my big DSLR camera was one of those things !
She was so good for her newborn portrait session. After those beautiful awake shots, (and a little drink and cuddle) she then drifted into a beautiful sleep and I just captured her beauty away.
